The Zoonotic Disease listserv provides the public with timely information regarding the Department of Health's Zoonotic and Vector-Borne Disease Surveillance and Prevention Programs. Zoonotic diseases are those that may be transmitted from animals to humans, and humans to animals (such as Swine Flu). Vector- borne diseases (such as West Nile Virus, or Plague) are generally transmitted to people through the bite of an arthropod (commonly referred to as insects).
