MTCA/SMS Advisory Group meets July 26

The Washington Department of Ecology continues work on revising and updating the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) cleanup regulation (Chapter 173-340 WAC) and cleanup portions of the Sediment Management Standards (Chapter 173-204 WAC).

Providing input to this process, the next meeting of the MTCS / SMS Advisory Group is Monday, July 26, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fabulich Conference Center in Tacoma, Room 104.

Topics on the agenda include:

·       Status updates on Sediment Management Standards (SMS) rule revisions.

·       Science policy choices and Method A cleanup levels.

·       Vapor Intrusion: update from the Vapor Workgroup.

All meetings are open to the public. Meeting materials related to the topics being discussed are posted on the Ecology web site at: MTCA/SMS Advisory Group .  Also available are materials from previous meetings.

Further meetings to resume in October

Ecology has received significant feedback from the advisory group, and will be working for the next several months to consider the input received.  In some instances we may need to rethink our initial ideas; in other places we will be looking at how to resolve implementation concerns.

In October Ecology will convene the advisory group to look at preliminary draft rule language. Our goal is to provide advisory group members and any other interested persons the opportunity for early review of a preliminary draft of the MTCA and SMS rule amendments. We anticipate several meetings to walk through the amendments, answer questions, and provide feedback.  Based on feedback to date, Ecology anticipates a final draft of the proposed amendments late spring or early summer of 2011.  We will be updating our web site periodically, so please check back.
