ATTN: Rehab providers, home health agencies, hospitals, clinicians

This notice applies to prescribing providers (Physicians, ARNPs, and PA-Cs) as well as servicing providers (Home Health agencies, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists, and Hospitals)

Effective April 1, 2011, the outpatient therapy benefits for clients 21 years of age and older will be changing as a result of the most recent legislative budget reductions.

What is changing?

Beginning April 1, 2011, new benefit limits apply to skilled therapy services through a Medicare-certified Home Health Agency as well as therapies provided by Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists in outpatient hospital clinics and free standing therapy clinics.  This limit DOES NOT apply to therapy services provided and billed by Physicians, ARNPs, and PA-Cs.

Clients twenty-one years of age and older can receive 24 Units for Physical Therapy, 12 Units of Occupational Therapy or 6 Units of Speech Therapy per year.  This equals 6 visits for each type of therapy.

The department will allow for additional visits only for qualifying conditions.
